Course 1- FILM PRODUCTION OVERVIEW

The First Course includes 5 Modules: The Overview, It’s All About Attitude, The Business Starts Up, The Plan and The Day Arrives. This First Course will give you an idea of what this career choice will demand of you and help guide you, so that your attitude and perceptions are prepared for the adventure ahead. You’ll learn how to identify possible PA jobs, how to approach potential clients, who is who on an average set, what happens on location and some of the nuances of being in the film industry.

Course 2 - FILM PRODUCTION THE REAL WORLD

This Second Course has 5 modules: How To Navigate, Be Prepared, Set Vs. Location, Part I & II and Communications. In Course 2 you will learn about moving forward quickly into becoming a seasoned PA. Once you start getting calls how do you navigate those jobs? We explore deeper into the world of locations and what might be asked of you as a PA. You’ll learn why communication is vital in so many aspects of film production. Course 2 is really about helping you understand the deeper world of what it like being in film production.

Course 3 - FILM PRODUCTION ON SET

The Third Course of the PA Series includes 5 Modules: It’s a Real Job, What is Petty Cash? What is Crafty? Parking, Posting and Talent.  In the Third Course of the PA Series we really start getting into some jobs specific to being a seasoned Production Assistant. You’ll learn how to use and track petty cash and a common way to process it. If you happen to get crafty for a job, you’ll learn how to navigate it with style so that the crew will love you forever! Parking is really important to most film sets, you’ll learn the in’s and out’s of parking and what might be asked of you in this department (locations). You’ll learn how to be on a set with celebrities and what to do and not do in those nervous moments so that you look like a pro.

Course 4 - FILM PRODUCTION RULES

The Fourth Course in the PA Series has 5 Modules: Field Rules, Transportation, On Location, Presentation, and Communication. This Fourth Course explains some the potential dangers of being on location and what to expect once you arrive on set. If you work in this industry for any length of time you’ll see many places and meet a wide variety of people. This course helps you understand how to be successful working in the world as you work on a film set. You’ll learn some really important lessons on what to expect from other crew members, how to handle yourself in rough waters, what can you do if you have any real issues and what are your options? What is the transpo department and what jobs may pertain to you? Why is presentation so important and what does that exactly mean? And finally communication on set, using walkie talkies and other devices. If you’re ever handed a walkie and don’t know how to use it this module will be priceless!

Course 5 - FILM PRODUCTION BUSINESS

The Fifth Course of the PA Series has 4 Modules: Start it up! Taxes, Networking and Final Thoughts. You’ll learn what you’ll need to be in business. Important topics like how to talk about your rate, what to do about tax time and how to grow your business. This last course is pretty important to running the business part of this adventure. I’ll share my story of how I started my business along with professionals in the field who will share their experiences. You’ll learn about contract vs. employee, taxes, getting paid, negotiating your rate, how to keep the doors open and finally, why should you do all this? What does this life have to offer you? I think you will be surprised and excited to see the career that is out there if you can just get in the door and then know how to shine.
